Tropical dystopia

2019. Photography. Personal project.

A few kilometers south of Huế, Vietnam, this strange place emerges from the woods.

Once a multi-million dollar amusement park, it went bankrupt overnight and was abandoned to decay. The owners left behind a colony of alligators in a terrarium—trapped for years before being rescued.

We bribed a local kid to show us the way in. The main entrance is "guarded," he warned. Of course, it's theater—you can walk in freely if you know. But paying the kid is worth it for the performance: the hushed conspiracy, the warnings about guards, the insistence that you need an appointment or someone inside to vouch for you.

Once through, you're in Jurassic Park after the dinosaurs died—empty, overgrown, haunted only by a massive dragon-unicorn sculpture watching over its abandoned kingdom from a small island.
